Thanks, Art. I admire and appreciate a person who admits he's wrong. Of course you're right that Wikipedia should be flagged as having sexual images, because it has big steaming piles of them. I would agree, also, that there could be--there certainly *should* be--a service that actually performs some reasonably good check for family-friendliness on Wikipedia. If there were a way to flag the obviously inappropriate content on Wikipedia, I would be all in favor of filtering that for the students, and whitelisting the rest. I would be very curious if any filter manager, or, say, any professional who gives advice to such managers, would like to go on record and say *both* that they are in favor of the entire Wikipedia.org domain being whitelisted for student consumption *and* that they understand that Wikipedia.org has enormous amounts of porn (and let's not forget about http://commons.wikimedia.org, which, I hate to point out, has content that is probably illegal). It's a sad and hard question but it's a sad old world, isn't it. --Larry > From: Art Wolinsky <awolinsky@3dwriting.com> > > Larry, > > Over the years I have left more than one monument to my stupidity > online, > and I really do live up to my signature line more than I would like to > admit.
